Promoting Your Next Gig: Seven Ways to Attract an Audience
Author: Georgina Pearce
Its often the bands responsibility to get the audience to show up to the next gig. Here are seven ways you can get the word out.
Advertise early. As soon as youve been booked at an event, get together with your band and design a marketing strategy. Dont wait until the week before the event.
Get your advertising out there. You should have fliers, postcards, and posters printed up advertising your gig. Hang them up, pass them out, and mail them in.
Hand out fliers at concerts. Go see bands that play music similar to yours. Pass out your fliers to audience members and network with the band. If you build a good relationship with them, they may even help promote your CDs too.
Tell your friends and family. Your friends and family are your number-one fansand theyll work for you like nobody else. Get them to tell their friends and pass out postcards.
Announce it online. If youre not already on Facebook and MySpace, you should be. Make sure youre announcing your gig on your online profile, website and blog.
Announce it to the local newspapers. Local newspapers often have a section that highlights local events and entertainment.
Open for another band. Network with other Indie bands as much as you can. Hopefully, youll be able to find a band that will be thrilled to let you open for them. The more you promote yourself, the more visible youll beand the more likely youll draw a crowd on the night of your next gig.About the AuthorG.
