Alex Lifeson needs no introduction. His playing helped define the sound of progressive rock, and now his iconic 1976 Gibson ES-355 lives on in a stunning new reissue from Epiphone. Part of the Inspired by Gibson Custom Collection, it's more than just another signature model — it's a tribute to Alex's tone, feel, and fearless creativity that helped power Rush through decades of innovation.

The Alex Lifeson 1976 ES-355 Reissue features a five-ply semi-hollow body made of maple and poplar, with multi-ply binding around the top and back for an elegant look befitting the top-of-the-line ES-355. A solid maple centerblock adds sustain and greatly increases feedback resistance, delivering the versatile tone that ES models are famous for.

The neck is crafted from three pieces of maple and, like the 70s-era model, features a volute for added strength at the neck/headstock joint. Its Slim C profile is fast and easy to play, while the ebony fretboard adds a touch of brightness and an exceptionally smooth playing feel, dressed with mother-of-pearl large block inlays and 22 medium jumbo frets. The Gibson-style "open book" headstock carries high-quality die-cast tuners with keystone buttons and a Graph Tech nut for stable tuning, plus multi-ply binding and mother-of-pearl Epiphone logo and Custom split diamond inlays. The truss rod cover is engraved with Alex Lifeson's name.

Gold hardware — including a harmonica-style Tune-O-Matic bridge and gold pickup covers — adds to the refined appearance, while a gold Maestro Vibrola delivers enhanced expressiveness with the push or pull of the bar. Lifeson's tone is faithfully recreated by two USA-made Gibson T-Type humbuckers, each paired with individual volume and tone controls using CTS potentiometers and Mallory tone capacitors, selected via a Switchcraft three-way toggle. A mono Varitone switch provides additional tonal options, with a mini toggle to preset and bypass or engage it at will, and a Switchcraft 1/4" output jack completes the electronics.

Finished in gloss Alpine White, this ES-355 is crafted for players who want to explore, evolve, and push the boundaries of what's possible, just as Alex does. It has the Custom-level appointments you'd expect from an ES-355 — Custom Shop feel without the Custom Shop price — and comes packed in a custom hardshell case with a black exterior featuring a reproduction of Alex Lifeson's signature, a red plush interior, and gold hardware.

Custom Shop Feel, Real-World Price

This reissue carries the Custom-level appointments and high-end features you'd expect from a top-of-the-line ES-355 — multi-ply binding, ebony board, mother-of-pearl inlays and gold hardware — at a price that makes it an exceptional value. It's built for every player and every stage, from your local club to the world's largest venues.

Loud Stages Without Feedback

The solid maple centerblock inside the semi-hollow body adds sustain and greatly increases feedback resistance. You get the versatile, airy tone ES models are known for, even when the amp is turned up.

More Tones To Explore

Beyond the usual two-volume, two-tone and three-way toggle setup, a mono Varitone switch opens up additional voices, and a mini toggle lets you preset it and bypass or engage it at will. Paired with the Maestro Vibrola, there's plenty of room to push boundaries the way Alex does.

Five-Ply Semi-Hollow Body

Layered maple and poplar construction with a solid maple centerblock, finished in gloss Alpine White with multi-ply binding on the top and back.

Three-Piece Maple Neck

Glued-in set neck with a fast Slim C profile and, like the 70s-era original, a volute for added strength at the neck/headstock joint.

Bound Ebony Fretboard

The ebony board adds a touch of brightness and an exceptionally smooth feel, with mother-of-pearl large block inlays, 22 medium jumbo frets and a 12-inch radius.

Gibson T-Type Humbuckers

Two USA-made Gibson T-Type humbuckers under gold covers recreate Lifeson's tone, selected with a Switchcraft three-way toggle.

Premium Wiring Components

Individual volume and tone controls use CTS potentiometers and Mallory tone capacitors, wired to a Switchcraft 1/4" output jack.

Mono Varitone With Bypass

A mono Varitone switch adds extra tonal options, and a mini toggle switch lets you preset it and bypass or engage it on the fly.
