The limited-edition Epiphone Les Paul Custom 100th Anniversary Outfit celebrates everything iconic about the Les Paul design — and the man responsible for so much of how we play and hear music today. For Les's 100th birthday, Epiphone pulled out all the stops with 24K gold hardware, abalone and pearloid inlays, and commemorative touches you won't find on a standard Custom.
Much of what we enjoy about modern music and guitar playing traces back to Les Paul. His recording career as a solo artist and as a duo with Mary Ford produced multiple hit records, he invented the use of multitrack recording and guitar looping, and he was an early pioneer of reverb and delay. But his most iconic work was done with the solidbody electric guitar, and the sound of music changed forever when Gibson put the Les Paul into production in the early 1950s.
This anniversary edition is dressed for the celebration. The truss rod cover, LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece, and Grover Imperial tuners all wear 24K gold. The Sloped Dovewing headstock carries the traditional Epiphone "Vine" inlay and a vintage pearloid logo with a sparkling Zirconium gemstone dotting the "i," while the back of the headstock bears a "The Legacy of Les Paul: 1915 - 2015" commemorative decal. The Pau Ferro fingerboard is inlaid with abalone and pearloid "Block & Triangle" markers, and 5-layer cream/black binding frames the body top, back, and headstock.
Under the hood, a pair of ProBucker humbuckers — a ProBucker-2 at the neck and a ProBucker-3 at the bridge — are designed at Gibson's pickup factory in Nashville, Tennessee. They're re-creations of the sought-after classic Gibson PAF pickups, with the powerful midrange and crystal-clear top end of great vintage Les Pauls. Push-pull volume pots let you split the coils for bell-like single-coil tones, and the mahogany body, glued-in mortise-and-tenon mahogany neck, and "1960's" SlimTaper D-profile keep the playing experience familiar to any Les Paul fan.
