Nicknamed "The Workhorse" and first introduced in 1942, it's the cornerstone of the Gibson round-shoulder dreadnought line — world-renowned for its full, balanced expression, warm bass, and excellent projection. The J-45 Standard refines that legacy with incredible dynamic range, warm mids, and tight, punchy bass.
The round-shoulder dreadnought body is built from solid mahogany back and sides paired with a solid Sitka spruce top over traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing. The top is multi-ply bound and the back gets single-ply binding. A mahogany neck with the fast, comfortable SlimTaper profile is set with a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint for superior tonal transfer and sustain, and topped with a rosewood fingerboard featuring 20 standard frets and mother-of-pearl dot inlays.
The headstock carries the Gibson logo inlaid in mother-of-pearl along with high-quality Grover Rotomatic tuning machines that, together with the TUSQ nut, deliver smooth, reliable tuning and excellent stability. The traditional belly-up rosewood bridge is fitted with a TUSQ saddle and bridge pins, while a teardrop pickguard and gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish complete the classic aesthetic.
An L.R. Baggs VTC under-saddle pickup and preamp system puts volume and tone controls right inside the soundhole, where they're easy for the player to reach but all but invisible to the audience. With natural-sounding electronics onboard and a Gibson hardshell case included, the J-45 Standard is stage- and studio-ready straight out of the case.
