Nicknamed "The Workhorse" and first introduced in 1942, this iconic acoustic became the cornerstone of Gibson's round-shoulder dreadnought line, world-renowned for its full, balanced expression, warm bass, and excellent projection.
The J-45 Standard delivers a sound with incredible dynamic range, warm mids, and a tight, punchy bass, due in part to its round-shoulder body with solid mahogany back and sides and a solid Sitka spruce top. It's a classic tonewood recipe that suits all musical styles, backed by traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing and finished in gloss nitrocellulose lacquer.
The mahogany neck has a comfortable, fast-playing SlimTaper profile topped with a rosewood fingerboard, 20 standard frets, and simple mother-of-pearl dot inlays. A compound dovetail neck-to-body joint ensures outstanding tonal transfer and sustain, while the traditional belly-up bridge carries a TUSQ saddle and bridge pins. A low-friction TUSQ nut and Grover Rotomatic tuners keep tuning rock solid.
Onboard, an L.R. Baggs VTC under-saddle pickup and active preamp with soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls make this J-45 stage- and studio-ready from the moment you take it out of the included hardshell case.
