Ibanez MDM1600 4-String Electric Bass Guitar - Cosmic Blue Starburst Low Gloss
$1,399.99
Some basses are built to honor tradition. Others are designed to refine it. The Ibanez Mode MDM1600 sits confidently at the intersection of both, delivering a modern, performance-driven take on the classic J-style platform. As part of the Ibanez Mode Series, it pairs familiar tonal DNA with contemporary engineering for a fast, balanced instrument that feels immediately intuitive yet unmistakably current.
An alder body provides the even, full-spectrum response J-style players know well — clear lows, punchy mids and a smooth high end that adapts easily to different playing styles. The poplar burl top adds a layer of boutique-inspired visual sophistication without altering the instrument's natural resonance. The specially modified J-style body shape keeps the bass balanced and opens up easy access to all 24 frets.
A one-piece roasted maple neck anchors the MDM1600 with exceptional stability, reduced weight and a quick, responsive feel. The thin C profile and rounded fretboard edges promote effortless movement through long sets and technical passages, while the rosewood fingerboard softens the attack slightly for added warmth and musicality. Medium stainless steel frets deliver smooth articulation and long-term durability, a Super All Access neck joint keeps the upper register comfortable, and luminescent side dots make navigation easy on dim stages.
At the heart of the sound are Ibanez Delta S4J pickups — an aggressive yet balanced single-coil voice with hum-canceling performance and an even frequency response that cuts through a mix without sacrificing nuance. They feed the Sonitech S preamp, with master volume and balancer, master tone, 3-band EQ, EQ bypass and a 3-way mid-frequency switch. A rear-mounted 2-way Hexa mid system expands that control further with six selectable mid-frequency points for precise sculpting in both active and passive modes.
Hardware is equally precise. Ibanez Aero-light tuners use Extra Super Duralumin components to reduce headstock weight while maintaining smooth, accurate tuning stability, and the MR5S Mono-rail bridge isolates each string for enhanced sustain and articulation with adjustable 19 mm spacing. A detachable finger ramp is included for players who want extra support for fast, consistent fingerstyle technique. A gig bag is included.
