The SE Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition retains the feel, response, and playability that define the Silver Sky model, while introducing a bold new visual character. For this limited run, John Mayer and PRS looked beyond the guitar world to the contemporary Defender palette — drawing from decades of history and more than 900 colors — and selected four finishes: Petra Copper, Sedona Red, Carpathian Grey, and Woolstone Green.
Each color is paired with a black pickguard, a first for the Silver Sky model, creating a striking new take on a guitar built to be played. A custom neck plate unique to the run and a custom gig bag complete the package.
At its core, this is still a player's guitar. A poplar solidbody with a flat top, bolt-on multi-ply maple neck with the 635JM shape, and a rosewood fretboard with an 8.5" radius and small bird inlays make up the platform. Three PRS 635JM "S" single-coils deliver full, warm vintage-inspired tone with a musical high end that never gets "ice-picky" or brash, routed through volume and two tone controls with a 5-way blade switch. The PRS 2-point steel tremolo and vintage-style closed-back tuners round out the hardware.
