The SE Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition retains the feel, response, and playability that define the Silver Sky model, while introducing a bold new visual character. For this collaboration, John Mayer and PRS looked beyond the guitar world to the contemporary Defender palette — decades of history and more than 900 colors — to select four finishes: Petra Copper, Sedona Red, Carpathian Grey, and Woolstone Green.
"Teaming up with Defender to offer the Silver Sky guitar in their legendary Defender colors is a dream come true," says Mayer. "I've always chosen colorways based on objects and materials that inspire me in the world, and as a collector and lover of Defenders, this collaboration is the perfect crossover between two great passions of mine."
Each color is paired with a black pickguard — a first for the Silver Sky model — creating a striking new take on a guitar built to be played. A custom neck plate unique to the run and a custom PRS/Land Rover gig bag complete the package.
At its core, this is still a player's guitar. The poplar solidbody, 25.5"-scale maple bolt-on neck with the 635JM shape, and 8.5"-radius rosewood fretboard with small bird inlays set up a familiar, comfortable platform. Three PRS 635JM "S" single-coils provide full, warm vintage-inspired tone with a musical high end, while the PRS 2-point steel tremolo and vintage-style closed-back tuners handle night after night on stage.
