The SE Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition keeps everything that defines the Silver Sky — the feel, the response, the playability — and introduces a bold new visual character. For this collection, John Mayer and PRS looked beyond the guitar world to the contemporary Defender palette, drawing from decades of history and more than 900 colors to select four finishes: Petra Copper, Sedona Red, Carpathian Grey, and Woolstone Green.
"Teaming up with Defender to offer the Silver Sky guitar in their legendary Defender colors is a dream come true," says Mayer. "I've always chosen colorways based on objects and materials that inspire me in the world, and as a collector and lover of Defenders, this collaboration is the perfect crossover between two great passions of mine."
Each finish is paired with a black pickguard — a first for the Silver Sky model — for a striking new take on a guitar built to be played. A custom neck plate unique to the run and a custom PRS/Land Rover gig bag complete the package.
Specs are pure Silver Sky: a poplar solidbody with a flat top, a bolt-on multi-ply maple neck carved to the 635JM shape, a rosewood fretboard with an 8.5" radius and small bird inlays, and 22 PRS SE medium frets on a 25.5" scale. Three 635JM "S" single-coils feed a volume control, two tone controls, and a 5-way blade switch, while a PRS 2-point steel tremolo and vintage-style closed-back tuners round out the hardware.
